Excee "Bobby" Smith, Jr. was called home on September 25, 2025, after 90 years of life.
Excee, the eldest child of Excee Smith Sr. and Queenie, was born on August 22, 1935, in Tarboro, North Carolina, where he graduated from high school. He moved to NYC, where he met Frances T. Vaughn. They married in 1957. He worked for the US Postal Service before beginning his final career as a NYC bus driver, while Frances pursued her nursing career. They welcomed three children into their union and raised them in Staten Island, regularly attending church and ensuring they were properly educated. Over the years, their parenting would include grandchildren as well as greats and great-greats. The children recall their "Gran", as he was called, as a no-nonsense, hands-on patriarch who made sure they wanted for nothing, and he demanded their best effort in pursuing their goals.
Bobby was blessed with numerous skills, many of them self-taught. He was a carpenter, electrician, auto mechanic, tailor, and chef, to name a few of those skills. He loved sports and was an avid golfer. He loved spending time with his great friends Henry Pfeiffer and Russell Shepherd. He was a fierce protector of his loved ones and a great and loyal friend. He was a devout and dedicated Christian, and the members of the International Christian Center of Staten Island will remember his dedication to helping build that church's reputation and his service in their men's ministry.
Bobby is survived by his son Kevin, daughter Lazinka Edwards(Kevin), and grandchildren Patrice, Manisha, Quentin, Kiyera, Simone, and Rhyan. great-grands Sharaya, Dequan, Kieshawn, Russell, Giovanna, and Royal, and great-great-grands Damiera, Dyasia and Noah. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Frances, his daughter and son in-law Valerie Kendall(Joseph), and grandchildren Joseph and Tamanika.
